Girraween National Park

Some parts of Girraween National Park are closed due to recent fires. Girraween’s northern walking tracks, including The Pyramid, Junction, Granite Arch, Bald Rock Creek circuit and Wyberba Walk are open. The Bald Rock Creek day-use area is also open.

Girraween, meaning ‘place of flowers’, is a park of massive granite outcrops, large angular tors, and precariously balanced boulders. Spectacular wildflower displays splash colour among the granite in spring.

Girraween has 17 km of walking tracks, ranging from a 280 m stroll beside Bald Rock Creek to an 11 km return walk to Mount Norman. Most walks start near the visitor information centre and day-use area—except where indicated. Main tracks are well defined but expect rocky sections and steep upper slopes.

Camp at either Bald Rock Creek or Castle Rock camping areas. Walk-in bush camping is permitted in some parts of the park, subject to limits on numbers. Camping permits are required and fees apply.

All campgrounds at Girraween National Park are currently closed due to a lack of water. 

The camping areas will:

• re-open for the June/July school holidays 29 June to 14 July (inclusive)
• re-open for the September school holidays 21 September to 5 October (inclusive)
• re-open for the Xmas school holidays (21 December)
• operate at half capacity with no showers provided when open
• re-open as early as possible, once substantial rainfall is received.

The park will remain open to day use activities. Campers are asked to be mindful of water use.
